Everything begins to fall into place for the Pearsons as the It’s us The Season 6 finale on May 24 is approaching. But there is still one unanswered question about Kate (Chrissy Metz) – and after last night, fans are now particularly worried.
In the penultimate episode of the NBC series, fans watched Randall (Sterling K. Brown), Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Kate held a family meeting to decide on the next steps for their sick mother Rebecca (mandy moore) following the heartbreaking death of their stepfather Miguel (Jon Huertas). Since Rebecca elected Kate to make all decisions about her care, the onus fell on sister Pearson to manage the conflicting wishes of her two brothers.
At the end, we see the Big Three agree on an arrangement – Kevin and Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) decide to move into the Big Three’s house with Rebecca, while Madison (Caitlin Thompson) and Elijah (Adam Korson) will be moving to the East Coast to keep everyone close to each other. Meanwhile, Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and Edie (Vanessa Bell Calloway) will be living at the cabin and will be there for extra support and help.
Everything seemed fine at the end of the episode. But like an eagle-eyed fan pointed out on Twitter, Kate is still nowhere to be found in the famous central flash-forward scene of the series finale. Screenshot of a moment shown in next week’s promo for the penultimate episode titled “The Train”, the whole family appears to be together except for Kate.
This, of course, begs the big question… where is Kate? Before we freak out too much, let’s remember that in that same flash-forward sequence, we’ve already seen Toby say that Kate was on her way home with their son Jack (Blake Stadnik) — in other words, there’s little chance Kate will get killed right before the series finale. That being said, that doesn’t mean she’s gonna make it home before Rebecca dies, as another fan warned online.
All we can say is get ready for Something devastating to happen, because Mandy said jimmy fallon on The show tonight recently that “you might need a day off after next week [episode].”

Additionally, Mandy said she threw up while reading the script for the show’s penultimate episode. “It’s really close to the bone for me,” she explained. “This has been my life for six years and it feels like I have to simultaneously say goodbye to the character and my family and friends on set.”
Awesome, just awesome!
