Dark Horse Comics and Berger Books announced a new OGN from INJ Culbard In November: Salamander. The cartoon is about an artist named Kaspar Salamanre who is sent to a place, “where flowers are smuggled goods, music is illegal, and art is created in secret.” Or in other words, Florida at this point next year.

From the press release:

Kaspar Salamandre is an abandoned young artist who is sent to live with his enigmatic grandfather who lives behind the Iron Veil – a land ruled by an oppressive emperor. In this strange place where flowers are smuggled goods, music is illegal and art is created in secret, Kaspar seeks to heal his grief – by discovering a world of art revolutionaries, espionage and the secret police – which is not what they see out to.

Ultimately, his search for answers puts him face to face with the meaning of sacrifice. But will anything bring him closer to overcoming his loss?

Culbard had the following to say about Salamander:

Writing what you know is really about writing what you think you know. Instead of what really happened, a confabulation grows with each retelling – a story that transforms a factual truth into a universal one. I took an event from a hot summer afternoon in my own life, made it to the finale and then worked backwards through my story, using the puzzle from my own memories as I grew up on both sides of the Iron Curtain during the Cold War as a basis. for this world – it’s a little rude compared to our own.

Karen Berger also commented in the press release, and although we usually have a rule about editors – if Bleeding Cool does not care enough to hire someone to proofread our articles, then they must not worry enough that we print their quotes – but we ‘I will make an exception for Berger:

I was blown away when I first heard INJ’s intriguing graphic novel idea inspired by his unusual travels as a child. It has a real European comic book feel – a bit like an off-beat Tintin, panoramic views sailed by underlying political danger, triggered with a touch of wonder and the fantastic. Ultimately, it’s about the endurance of love and the power that memory and stories have over us. It’s INJ Culbard’s enormous storytelling talent that has never been seen before, and I’m so excited to share it with the world.

Salamander deluxe softcover will be in comic book stores on november 2, 2022 and in bookstores on november 15, 2022 for $ 24.99.
