CASPER, Wyo (Wyoming News Now) – High school athletes are doing their best to peak at the right time before next weekend’s Casper State Convention. This weekend, Natrona County High School was the site of 4A West Track Regionals.
Despite some very windy conditions, it did not hold too much of the competition. Natrona County welcomed Riverton and other schools from the western state of the state for the chance to secure a spot at next weekend’s state convention at Kelly Walsh High School.
One athlete who was not so bothered by Friday’s gust of wind was Jackson Dutcher, a junior from Natrona County. The Mustang won the boys’ 800m and finished in fourth place in the 3200m. The finish of 1: 58.90 in the 800m was a personal record for Dutcher.
“I just knew I wanted that PR, and I think it’s just wanted,” Dutcher said of how he was able to succeed in the windy weather. “I’ve been building so much momentum the last few weeks that I’m peaking at the right time.”
Dutcher was awarded two medals for his finishes on Friday and he achieved an all-conference medal. That meant he carried a little extra weight around his neck on the drive home, and he said “it’s a great feeling” when they drape that medal over your shoulders.
“You will remember [that feeling] probably for the rest of your life and you know I want to feel it again on the state.
A couple of foal mares from Natrona County also had great days last Friday. Alesha Lane won the girls ‘discus, and Delilah Baedke won the girls’ 3200m.
