Hilary Duff Explains Why ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot Was Abandoned – The Hollywood Reporter

Hilary Duff opens up more about the decision to abandon the Lizzie McGuire restart on Disney+.

In a recent interview with women’s healthDuff explained that she insisted with the streamer that the revival of the classic Disney Channel show would feature a more mature Lizzie, without having to be also mature.

“She had to be 30 to do 30-year-old things,” Duff told the magazine. “She didn’t have to do bangs and have one-night stands all the time, but it had to be genuine. I think they got scared.

Duff announced that the reboot was no longer moving forward in December 2020, just over a year after the project was announced. In the new series, Duff would play an adult version of his character and star alongside much of the original cast, with Adam Lamberg, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas all set to reprise their roles.

Duff sees how people could draw parallels between Sophie and a 30-year-old Lizzie McGuire.

“It would be stupid of me not to know that I have a soft spot for playing this girl that you can identify with. I’m that girl,” Duff said women’s health. “It was a conscious choice not to be anxious and try to change people’s opinion of who I am. That doesn’t mean I didn’t want to try.
